When I recently came upon these unusually patterned beads at a local Gem Show, I was instantly smitten. I found myself drawn to their unusual patterns and soothing colors and love the ~smooth as silk~ low luster satin finish. A glance at the tag revealed them as “Tibetan Agate”. I had not heard of the Tibetan kind, but it didn’t come as a big surprise that such a thing existed, given the countless varieties of agates. To learn more about the different kinds of agates and how they are formed you can check out this cool website.
The colors remind me so much of one of my favorite places to be: the forest!
Don’t those brown spots or eyes on them look like inlaid wood? I snagged the last strand and went home wanting more! I scoured the internet, found more and ordered them. And then they sat. Every now and then I would just look at the strands, admire the colors and patterns, run the smooth beads through my fingers…
But this week it finally hit me and once I sit down in my work shop there is no stopping me!
It’s been a little bit since I last featured my own jewelry on a blog post and I thought it was high time I showed you what I’ve been up to lately. If you follow me on instagram, you may have seen a couple of shots of these already, but I didn’t want to limit your viewing pleasure to poorly lit cell phone snapshots, because I am pretty happy with they turned out!
Until recently I have never been a huge fan of long necklaces, as they seem to sometimes get in the way, but ever since Downton Abbey began airing I am obsessed with them! And then it dawned on me that these beautiful beads would look amazing in a necklace where Tibet meets Downton Abbey! Don’t you agree?
It’s not easy to show them off in a photograph, but I have found they look really nice displayed as a double strand:
To keep the longer format from looking too boring, I love to throw a little bit of asymmetry into the mix. With this particular piece it doesn’t matter much which way you wear it, it will look great! And since this is your lucky day, it just so happens that I listed it and the matching bracelet and earrings in my shop today!
Here they are!

I would love to hear what you think about these! Any thoughts on the pros and cons of long necklaces? Do you like them to have a clasp or do you prefer pulling them over your head?
I have been pretty busy in my shop and have a couple of exciting new lines coming out very soon, so stay tuned!
I’d love you to pieces for a “like” on Facebook!
