Now where has this month gone?
Can it really be time for the monthly our Jewelry Artisans Community blog hop again?
Our topic for May is: THEMED JEWELRY
Please be sure to check out the other posts in this hop by several of my very talented blogger friends – links are at the bottom!
Honestly, after rolling this concept around in my head for a while, I would go so far as to to say that essentially ALL jewelry falls into this category to some degree or another. After all jewelry is basically chosen as an expression as well as an extension of the wearers personality.
Sleek and sophisticated?
Substantial, chunky or rustic?
Whimsical and playful?
The possibilities are endless. And confusing. And overwhelming!
I usually find myself on the more general side of jewelry design, the idea of somehow being “pigeon-holed” or inadvertently typecasting and limiting my design freedom by focusing on themed jewelry just isn’t my bag. But, having said that, there are still several more specific styles I decided to deliberately focus on. I detailed how these designs came about, and my personal reasons for including them on my designer rap sheet :) here and here.
Some designers pick one theme and never stray from it throughout their entire creative journey, others are much more diversified. I love to incorporate my own likes and interests into my designs and hope my love for a particular subject shows enough for someone else to want to wear it. While it is easy to copy what has been done previously, I feel the challenge that themed jewelry presents is one of infusing ones own ideas and making it uniquely yours without merely copying what has been done in the past. Easier said than done – but not impossible.
So, do you to prefer strongly themed jewelry? Is it important for you to be able to express your likes and views through this unique wearable canvas?
I am always interested how others view this subject!
Hope you are having a wonderful week!
